I captured this Mute Swan showing the aggresive side thats not very often displayed :crash: i look at this a good reminder as why not to take this very beautiful but at the same time big and powerfull birds for granted.

I really do hope you were heck out the way from being charged as well :) Always amusing to watch them hum after a poor swimmer in the water, ready, fluffed and able.

But damn it shwos how powerful these birds are, I'd really hate to be the target o-o

I've heard it said that a wan is capable of breaking a Man's arm if provoked. Not quite sure how it would do that exactly but I surely wouldn't want to be on the engry end of one.

I'm glad they're not entirely placid though. Lovely photo Dave, full of energy!

Now you know I meant 'Swan' not 'wan' right? :blushes:

A TOTALLY unbelievable capture :faint: I know precisely how hard it would have been to get this....as always with your shots, the colour and clarity are superb, you froze the motion incredibly (what was the shutter speed?) and, I can't believe you got the lens back in time to get the wingspan...What was it going for - not you I hope? This is a 'once in a lifetime' shot to me...it's superb....

:handshake: No this was my 300mm double to 600mm. i was originally shooting the nesting Grebes and he came to me hence how i got a action shot with a tripod mounted 600mm lol.
i find the ratio for out of focus and exposure go up running converters but with fantastic light like we had in july when i got this one, having a converter setup in your bag is very usefull.

Thankyou!!!!!!!!! =D well you will smile when i tell you it was a Black Swan!!!!! you can just see some of his splashes as he made a frantic escape LOL. i stopped this action at 1/1250sec which worked well as it hasn't
stopped all the action dead showing some speed and velocity. i like the head down posture like he really mean't it which he did. thats why i never ignore any species no matter how common they are,if you look
close enough theres always something interesting and unique to capture:w00t:
:iconthedoc4:
Yes i was a long way back=p and it was a Black Swan that got his back up!!!!!!!!!!!! like you say they are very powerfull and when were in there domain the water i think
i would be very cautious!!!!!!
:iconthedoc4:
Yes i've hears the same to about breaking bones!!!!!!!! well from what i've seen of them and this shot shows, a strike from that powerfull wing stroke would definatly hurt
and maybe break a arm, you can clearly see how pet dogs come a cropper when they go in the water!!!!!!!
:iconsheryllabouchardiere:
Definitely
But then they're only being defensive. It's not like they go looking for photographers and dogs to charge at ;)
